A promise - from me to you

I've first started this blog because I felt like I could have something to say. Something positive. Something different than all the things we see and read online.

I felt like kids and teens need someone to tell them it's gonna be okay. Someone to tell them they're not the only ones. Someone to tell them that it's okay, that everybody makes mistakes and that it will get better

There's a lot of hate online. A lot of bullying and a lot of people who tend to forget that there's someone real on the other side of the screen. Someone with a life, a story, a past, feelings, problems, worries, doubts and insecurities. For some, the internet is the only place where they can just shut down for a minute, it's their escape, their little fort. But internet is everything but safe. It can be really scary and it's full of mean people who don't hesitate when writing awful comments about someone. I will not give you examples, you know what I'm talking about.

You know, I've suffered from bullying myself, I struggled with self confidence issues and there were times when I just wanted to hide. Even today, I have moments when waking up for another day is a battle. I know where you're at. And I promise you, you are not alone. I also promise it will get better.

I'm on my 20's now but I remember oh so well what it's like to be a teenager. I know life can be hard when you're a teen. Older people look at you like you're stupid and your pears don't really get you and don't really care 'cause their stuck in their own little world. When you're a teen, if you think about it, what you're living is the only thing you know. Before, you were a child and this moment is your only reality. So it's easy to think "this is it, I will never be happier than this". But you know...everyone has a past and a present and you HAVE a future. Things will get better.

You will be more confident, you will have more and more reasons to live, you will meet new people, people that will make you wonder: "where were you all those times I was so alone?". They will be there for you. You will be stronger and wiser.

I know we don't choose our family, we don't choose where we come from but you can start you're own family, eventually, you can choose who you wanna be, what you want to do. You can even move to another country for all you know.

You know? Change you're perspective. Look further. Don't give up and don't be afraid of mean words. I know words hurt but sometimes they're just empty of meaning. Most of the times they can't really harm you and if you learn how to ignore them, people will get tired, they will forget why they were picking on you.

Sometimes it doesn't work that way, sometimes you have to deal with it for a little longer than you think you can handle. But, I promise you this, you can deal with it and it will get better! I know many people who have struggled with bullies, with shitty parents and crappy boyfriends. And you know what? They became stronger and chose to live their own lives, their own way.

Talk to someone, look for support, share your fears with someone you trust. Don't suffer alone. Don't even allow you to think about giving up. That's not an option, ever.

Because life is full of beautiful things. Sometimes we just have to take a minute to remember ourselves why is it that we love to live. We have this animal instinct for survival, it's only natural.

Try this exercise: everyday, at the end of the day, write down the highs and lows of the day, even the smallest things. You will be surprised with how many good things you experience everyday. A smile, a sunrise, a piece of cake...just write everything down. And when you're feeling low, go ahead and read these little lists of yours, think about how you felt doing those things and how there's yet so much to discover, so much in this life that you don't know about...yet.

It will get better. I promise.

P.S.: I'm sorry about some (possible) grammar mistakes, I usually make a previous review of all my entries in Microsoft Office Word 'cause blogger only shows vocabulary errors, but my computer is close to chaos so...today that wasn't possible. Hopefully I didn't screw anything up and I'm worrying for nothing ;)

Get up

Good afternoon!

This blog is about being happy. It's about overcoming our problems. And you might think "Yeah, like she is going through any problems in her life...bullshit". Well, first, watch the language and second, you're right in one thing: I don't consider it a problem, I see it as a challenge

For the first time in my life, I'm unemployed. And you know what? I'm not gonna flower it up. It's not easy. When we are fired our confidence is shredded into small pieces. I didn't do anything wrong, I was just a victim of the "conjuncture", according to my boss. The crisis, the lack of money, the fact that my job is no longer needed 'cause the "department" (let's put it this way) where I worked was shut down.

But, even in this particular situation, we always end up thinking that we could have done more, that we could have done something to just stand out in the crowd, you know? So that we wouldn't represent the group of people who ended up getting fired - yes, a lot of people got fired, this is the reality that we are living nowadays. Well, maybe we could. Maybe if we did this or that...but you know what? We'll never know. And the one thing we do know is that we have to get up.

That's right. Get up! This post is for you who are in the same situation I am today. You got fired. You are sad. You feel like the world as something against you. But, guess what? The world has absolutely nothing against you. If you look around, there are thousands of people in the same place as you. And it's just normal, you know? If you think about it, this is how we build a career, a resume, with different experiences, different positions in different companies.

I read this thing in a magazine last week and it made so much sense to me. It said something like this: now that you are unemployed, your job is to look for a job!

This is the attitude that you should have. You WILL get a job eventually. Maybe you'll even like your new job. Maybe, just maybe, you'll love it even more than you loved the last one. If your last job was your first, just think about it: your first job will probably be the worst you will ever have. Someone told me this the other day and I thought "hum...but...well...yeah...you might be right".

So...did you get the point? Get up! No one will find you a job for you. You are the one who has to do it. It's in your hands.

First step? Update your curriculum vitae, your resume, whatever you wanna call it. Do a search in the web, if you don't know how to do it. You have some amazing tools and some advises on this subject. Go for it. Register yourself in linkedin, do some research on your professional area and show the world how amazing you really are. Yeah. Didn't you know? You are amazing, sir! And you too, lady! Go for it!

Embrace this opportunity as a chance to do some major modifications in your life. And while you're at it, why don't you go and try a different haircut? Just sayin'...

See you later, alligator! And bring me some good news!

Welcome!

Good morning! Or good afternoon! Have a lovely evening! This is my first post here and I'm really excited! You know, I've been writing in other blogs but they always end up kind off dead...

(Also, this is the first time I'm writing a blog in English, which is not my first language.)

I think this is the one. The chosen one. The survivor. And what is the purpose of this blog, anyway? (This is what you're asking right there...sittin' at your desk, chillin' in your computer, asking yourself "why the f... am I wasting my time in this page?".)

Well, I will tell you why. Right now.

Because, here, the keyword is "HAPPY". Because you SHOULD and you CAN be happy. It is up to you. And let me ask you: don't you absolutely hate when people say this? "Oh, I choose to be happy every single day". Yeah...right! Right??

We both know it's not that easy. We both know that, sometimes, life give us a hard time and smiling becomes one hard task to do. But, let's be honest with ourselves. Sometimes (most part of them) we are responsible for our own misery. And that's why I am here today. To remind you (and myself...cough, cough) that it's not that bad, that it's NOT the end of the world and that you DESERVE to be happy, just like everybody else.

I'm not a psychologist, nor some kind of guru of happiness. I've actually always been a really negative person. There were times when I didn't have any sort of self-confidence. I didn't like to look at the mirror and, basically, everybody was better than me - in my really stupid and blind mind. And yeah, I smiled all the way, but I was a sad child and, later, a sad teenager.

Now...I will not lie, I still have my issues goin' on (who hasn't?) but I face life with another attitude nowadays. I'm not as dramatic as I once was and I really like the person I've become.

But I'm losing my point here.

The main goal here is not to create a false smile in your face. Is to make you understand that you have a beautiful REAL smile there, hiding somewhere deep inside of you. And you know what? You're the only one keep in it locked away.

We will spread positive thoughts and energies through this "world wide web", which, in my opinion, is full of negative stuff. I can't go to any website without seeing a bunch of negative comments, hating behaviors and people who are really angry with life (and with other people).

You know what? I am too! There are times when I want to punch everyone right in the face. But I discovered, a while ago, that these kinds of thoughts and feelings only arm ourselves and the ones we love.

So, let's try to see things in a different perspective, shall we? Let's try to, simply, enjoy life. Sometimes it's not easy. But it's doable. One day at a time? Nah, that's too boring and limited. One week at a time, maybe! Or, even better, one thought at a time.

Like...right now, for instances. You know that little thing that is keepin' you off of sleep or relaxing? In a few weeks, maybe a couple of months, you will discover that that too had a solution, that, maybe, it was not even a real problem and lived only in your mind. You will find out that the person keepin' your thoughts full of drama is not even part of your life anymore. Like that one thing that was bothering you last year...remember? No?

Right...see what I mean?

Anyway, thank you for staying this far! I will try to do smaller publications in the future, I promise. This was the first. It's special. Hope to see you around here more often!

See you later, alligator!
